Our United Church of Canada values remind us that “We are not alone.” We put this belief into action by offering connection and caring and a community for life.
Fairlawn is an Affirming Ministry, seeking to welcome and form allyships with those who wish to be in community with us. We celebrate the diversity of our community of faith and our city.
We seek to create a safe space where everyone is welcome to join us wherever they are on their spiritual journey.
We seek to create a safe space where everyone is welcome to bring every aspect of their whole self to participate in our community.
Fairlawn’s 62nd Annual Book Sale will return the last weekend of April 2025. The sale provides many opportunities to volunteer and meet others in the community, as well as get great bargains on thousands of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and records. We will post our 2025 donation schedule in January 2025 for drop-offs or to arrange a neighbourhood pick up. For general information and news about the book sale, please visit our Book Sale webpage.
Do you love to read and discuss what you read? Join us online to talk about the current issue of Broadview magazine.
Resuming Sunday, September 8, 2024, we gather for in-person coffee hour after Sunday worship. Volunteer opportunities are available.
Tuesday Lunch Crowd features a speaker at its online meetings from 12:55pm to 2:15pm on the second Tuesday of the month, from September to June.
We offer connection and caring in several ways:
Women who have breast cancer, or have survived it, meet monthly on Zoom for information sharing, encouragement, fitness ideas and some fun social events. The group provides a supportive environment with women who understand this journey. It is open to anyone from the church or community who would like to join.
Our pastoral visitation ministry provides support and compassion for those who may occasionally experience difficulty in their lives and supports our senior members when they can no longer regularly attend church. We send cards and flowers and keep them connected to Fairlawn through phone calls and personal visits.
Prayer shawls are offered to Fairlawn members, family and friends in need of support and comfort, or to celebrate a special occasion. The knitters work on their own time on these cozy, warm shawls that serve as a tangible reminder that one is not alone. Please contact if you would like to join this ministry or know of someone who would appreciate receiving a shawl. The shawls are not for sale, but donations are gratefully received in order to purchase yarn to maintain the ministry.
Between 2020 and 2023, in lieu of the Visitation Tea, a gift of spring flowers was delivered after Easter to our senior members who were no longer able to attend church services regularly. We are pleased that on June 5, 2024, we held our Afternoon Tea in the sanctuary. Our senior members participated in a communion service with readings and music, followed by refreshments and an opportunity to visit and connect with one another.
